Fondazione Galleria Milano is thrilled to announce Untitled (Unconscious), a compelling group exhibition curated by Elio Grazioli. This timely exhibition delves into the often-overlooked yet profoundly significant theme of the unconscious in contemporary art.
“For years, it seems, artists haven’t been talking about the unconscious, at least not in public discourse,” states curator Elio Grazioli. “Yet it feels like such an important topic to constantly consider. Is there an issue that might be important and interesting to bring to light? It’s also a hundred years since the Surrealist Manifesto – why not directly question artists on the subject?”
Extending a research project primarily spearheaded for years by Giulio Lacchini, to whom the project and its paradoxical title “Senza titolo (inconscio)” are owed, Grazioli invited fourteen artists of varied expression, generation, and origin to confront their work and thoughts with the complexities of the unconscious. They were asked not only to produce a site-specific visual intervention but also to openly write about their perspectives.
The diverse group of participating artists, presented in alphabetical order, includes: Stefano Arienti, Dario Bellini, Boy Sue with Marilina Ciaco, Sergio Breviario, Gianluca Codeghini, Martina Corà, Giulio Lacchini, Claudia Losi, Eva Marisaldi/Enrico Serotti, Mara Palena, Luca Pancrazzi, Moira Ricci, Luca Scarabelli, and Alessandra Spranzi.
The exhibition is accompanied by a substantial 160-page, full-color book, published by Edizioni Obliquo. This insightful volume features an “Introduction” by curator Elio Grazioli, an illuminating essay by philosopher Riccardo Panattoni, and a special “Finale” by Grazioli himself. The “Finale” is a unique collage of significant phrases extracted from the artists’ statements, creating a cohesive collective outcome that reflects the diverse approaches to the unconscious.
Fondazione Galleria Milano will host a presentation of the publication in conjunction with an exhibition featuring a selection of works by the participating artists.
